Timepiece Concept

“Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.”

-Nathaniel Hawthorn

[human] Timepiece explores the perception of time

The passage of time is eternal and immutable, yet the concept of time varies from each individual. Even as the universal time sets its rhythm and pace, its relativity is dictated by emotions.

[human] Timepiece serves to reflect upon the transience of time. It tells of both time in its universality, and [human] time that is garnered by emotion.

Five acrylic blocks of different thickness and weight sit on the timepiece, displaying analogue time through an LCD screen. Each block signifies the different stages of sadness manifestation. Yet even in the different stages, time still sets its universal rhythm and pace.

The [human] Timepiece exists in the twilight of a new day. In acknowledging one’s state of mind for that period - take a piece of acrylic block, and in that instance start one’s [human] time. Through this acknowledgment, one can then realize and begin to appreciate the simple joys in life, and only then can the impetus for the pursuit of happiness be renewed.

The pursuit of happiness does not lie in happiness, but rather the pursuit.
